Wgtn meeting, Wed 18 April 2012

Members may remember Ken Chandler addressing a meeting at St Giles, where he discussed Dragon Naturally Speaking (version 9, if memory serves me correctly), a utility for those with RSI or those who have difficulty in typing and where commands are issued or documentation inputted by speaking.

Ken has agreed to discuss the latest version of DNS, which he considers to be a considerable advance over earlier versions, at this month's meeting at St Giles.

For those with wrist problems or typing difficulties generally -- or simply an interest in what the software has to offer -- don't miss this meeting!

LATE DATE CHANGE: Hutt Meeting for April 2012

Please note that, because the official meeting date coincides with Easter Monday, the meeting has been postponed for a week and will now held on Monday 16 April.

The topic will remain unchanged; that is, Arthur Harris will be giving a demonstration on Windows 8.

Hutt meeting, Mon 9 April 2012

Arthur will demonstrate a beta version of Windows 8, officially due out at the end of the year. This is essentially a repeat performance of the one he gave at St Giles at the last Wellington meeting.

If you missed that meeting and are interested in seeing what differences exist between this new operating system and Windows 7 the meeting is at the Moera Community House commencing at 7:30 pm.

As no specific topic has been arranged for this month's meeting, there will be a "brains trust" for providing answers to all those nagging computer problems you have.

Have them solved by our panel of experts (that usually means Roger and Richard) when you come along to the meeting.

Hutt SIG meeting, Mon 12 March 2012

David Edwards will demonstrate and compare media players/streamers at his home and NOT at the Moera Community House. Time for start is as usual at 7:30 pm.

Roger will talk about the Linux-based, Google-owned, Android operating system used on most smart phones and non-Apple tablets and notebooks.

If you are contemplating buying one of the above, come along to the meeting and find out what Roger thinks about what makes them all tick!!

Wgtn meeting, Wed. 21 Dec 2011

It's Christmas Party time again and the final meeting for the year. Roger will not be with us as he is currently holidaying in Borneo. That includes mountain-climbing, we have been led to believe. Richard will be bringing in a cake and there will be other goodies as well as non-alcoholic drinks on offer.

In addition, Jim Oliver will discuss video compression, a topic with which he is highly conversant. That will involve analysing a number of codecs to show the detail that can get lost as the degree of compression is imcreased. This is an excellent opportunity to learn all there is to know about this subject.

All in all, this will be an exciting evening so please make an effort to attend.
